The 'Blockley Millennium Mystery Play’ was a community play staged by a cast and crew of local Blockley residents to mark the turn of the Millennium in 1999. It was a huge success both financially, raising over £1000 for the church roof fund, and emotionally, generating the sort of community spirit that is rare in this day and age and which was a privilege to be a part of. The 1999 production told the story of the New Testament.

It became a major event for the Millennium Celebrations in the Cotswolds and featured on the BBC programme Songs of Praise.

Blockley Parish Church in the North Cotswolds was the venue for this ambitious production of the medieval mystery plays and was staged in the last days of 1999.

The production was directed by writer and TV writer/director/actor Chris Jury, best known for his portrayal of Eric Catchpole in the BBC's Lovejoy.

The team produced a version of the Coventry Mystery Plays. These medieval guild plays tell the story of Christ's life from the nativity through to the crucifixion and resurrection. The plays were presented as a platform performance. The interior of St. Peter & St. Paul's Church in Blockley was transformed by the removal of the pews and a lighting tower and three stages were built in the church - all without disrupting the normal Christmas celebrations and services.
